This week in ISM, my goals are to further develop my final product and prepare for my research speech on skin cancer awareness among teenagers. I will begin by researching harmful facts about skin cancer, particularly its increasing rates among teens due to factors like indoor tanning and inadequate sun protection. For instance, studies show that individuals who use tanning devices are 2.5 times more likely to develop squamous cell carcinoma and 1.5 times more likely to develop basal cell carcinoma.
To effectively raise awareness, I will provide practical prevention strategies for teenagers, such as wearing protective clothing, using broad-spectrum sunscreen, and avoiding tanning beds. It’s crucial for teens to understand that sun exposure during childhood significantly increases their risk of developing skin cancer later in life.
Continuing, In preparation for my research speech next week, I will update my slides to include information about my mentor and my insights regarding the final product. I plan to incorporate statistics and facts about skin cancer incidence in teenagers to strengthen my message. By focusing on education and prevention, I aim to empower my peers to take proactive steps in protecting themselves against skin cancer while fostering a culture of awareness within our community.
