This past week, I attended FISD’s professional symposium. At this symposium, we interacted with professionals, practiced interviewing with a professional, and learned several ways to succeed in ISM. Starting off the day, we expanded our network by going around a room of professionals, introducing ourselves, and explaining our topics. We also got to ask the professionals questions about what they do in their careers. This unique opportunity allowed me to get out of my comfort zone. We next went to two sets of interviews, which allowed me to practice how to act in an interview. I was then given feedback on how I did at these interviews and ways to improve. Lastly, we went to several stations instructed by second-year ISM students. These students gave us tips on how to come up with original work, expand your network, how to contact professionals, and ways to find a mentor. These stations gave me great ideas on what I could do for my original work. It also gave me a good base for contacting professionals and the best ways to do that. Overall, the professional symposium allowed me to expand my network and learn more about ISM. This was such a great experience, and I am glad I had the opportunity to participate in the Symposium. I will definitely be taking the skills I learned from this symposium into the future.
