This week in ISM I was given the opportunity to shadow a Physician Assistant at Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center in Allen. This was one of the coolest experiences I have had yet in my journey through ISM. From 8am-12pm I shadowed Matthew Bruno as he consulted and treated patients with all sorts of skin diseases. I was shocked by the amount of patients that came in with skin cancer. I was not aware of the fact that many people experience this diseases at all different stags rather that's pre cancer all the way to Basel cell carcinoma. Shadowing Matt, I learned what the day to day life of a physician assistant is. I have found that they are interacting with patients all day long, and very busy while in the office. Matthew saw patients back to back from 8am to 12pm. This is the kind of lifestyle I wish to have in the future swell, staying busy, moving constantly, and interacting with people. Overall, this shadow experience opened my eyes, and answered many questions I had about being a Physician assistant for a dermatologist. I also learned from Matthews medical assistants how to prepare for PA school, and how to stand out against other applicants. This information I learned over the corse of just a few hours will be extremely useful as I hopefully embark on this career.
